Julius C. Johnson

Julius Christian Johannsen was known as Julius Christian Johannsen in the USA.

Julius C. Johnson, 86, prominent pioneer of the Big Bend, died at Almira Saturday morning after a prolonged illness. He was born in Germany, coming to this country in 1881. After spending a year in San Francisco, he arrived in the Big Bend country where he homesteaded as soon as he became 21. In 1902 he organized the Almira State Bank, which he served as president until it was sold to the National Bank of Commerce in July, 1948. He had contributed materially to the development of this district and had served in the state legislature. The land where Coulee Dam now stands belonged largely to him. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lyle Cubbage, Spokane; and two sons, Walter of Spokane and Ray of Almira; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Almira at 2 p.m. Monday. (Odessa Record: 8-04-1949)
