John Graydon Simpson (right) in front of Lancaster ED547 'PO-M', 1943

This aircraft 'M-Mother' belonged to 467 Squadron RAAF of Bomber Command based at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire. It was originally U-Uncle (hence the pawnshop sign) and carried the slogan 'We take anything' - appropriate since the captain, P/O JH Whiting from Adelaide, SA, was noted for his ability to return to base in spite of damage to aircraft from flak or night fighter combat. The aeroplane completed 40 raids over enemy territory and claimed one night fighter shot down.
