PTE. HAROLD BEATHE
On Wednesday last Mr. and Mrs F. Beathe, of Cundletown, received word from the authorities that their son, Pts.. Harold Beathe, is presumed to have lost his life when travelling on the Japanese tansport which was recently torpedoed by an Allied vessel. The young soldier was horn at Taree, 23 years ago, and went to school at Cundle. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the A.I.F., and went to to Malaya shortly after the outbreak of hostilities with Japan. He fought until the fall of Singapore,.when he was taken prisoner. Brothers und sisters are Pte. Jas. Beathe, (A.I.F.), Heather (AIF)., Bertie, working in Taree), Alex, (at home), Mrs H. Weatherby (Sydney), Mrs. K. Agnew (Newcastle), and Miss Marjorie Beathe (Sydney).
The Northern Champion, Taree, NSW, Saturday, 4 November 1944
CUNDLETOWN.
(From Our Correspondent).
I desire to convey sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. F. Beathe, who received the sad news that their son, Jack, had lost his life when the Japanese "hell ship" was recently torpedoed. Jack had spent several years as a prisoner in Japanese hands after the fall of Singapore. It was only a few weeks ago his family had received the terse broadcasted greeting permitted by the Jap to his prisoner, and were overjoyed to know he still lived on. Jack Beathe enlisted under age and gave his young manhood in defence of loved ones, his mother, father, brothers and sisters. They have reason to be proud of his heroism and will keep him enthroned forever in their hearts.
The Manning River Times and Advocate for the Northern Coast Districts of New South Wales (Taree, NSW), Wednesday, 29 November 1944
Master Alex Beathe, 6-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Beathe, recently was struck by a passing lorry. A fractured skull and many anxious hours for his relatives and friends of the family resulted. To date progress is reported from the hospital and one and all are hoping that his recovery will be successful and complete.
