This Bertel Strunch is one of Taarnborg's most remarkable residents. According to the sources, he appears to be a bit of a lucky knight. Struch was born in Scania around 1550. Nothing is known about him until he appears in Copenhagen in 1589-90, without him obtaining citizenship. You know he is in Copenhagen because he is unlucky with a gold chain, which he got as a mortgage and then borrowed 550 rigsdaler. As it turned out, however, the chain was only in mortgage with the mortgagor and he lost most of his money. In 1591, the rich councilor in Ribe, Peder Baggesen, dies and his widow Dorete sits back in the prestigious building Porsborg by the cathedral with some goods. Struch came to the city in 1593 and here he became popular among people as a successful negotiator for Bishop Peder Hegelundby his 3rd marriage.

As early as October 23, Struch himself is engaged to the rich widow Dorete Baggesen and they are legally married December 9, 1593.

When his wife dies in 1602, he marries two years later, August 26, 1604, Anders Sørensen Vedel's daughter Anna and moves into Taarnborg.

Struch was a team man and several times lent large sums for repairs of the cathedral and for the construction of Sct. Katarinæ church tower in 1617. He founded a scholarship for the benefit of the three poorest teachers at the cathedral school in 1616 and he donated together with his first wife's eldest son in 1602 7 homes in Klostergade to poor homes for honest Danes and women. Struch was proposed as mayor in 1606, but had to suffer the tort of not being elected, allegedly because he had a very combative mind and was involved in lawsuits, among others. a. with his first wife's children about their inheritance.

He participated in several juries at Riber court in Grønnegade and as such sentenced August 27, 1610 Anna Harchis to the fire as a true witch. Bertel Struch died on May 28, 1621.

His second wife Anna Vedel survived him and did not die until 1655. But even before she became a widow, she had lost her mind and was bedridden. For the first few years she lived at Taarnborg, but then moved in with her son-in-law.

In 1648 part of her fortune was set aside for her care and the rest was divided between the heirs. She died very wealthy and her wealth amounted to 15296 rigsdaler as well as an equally large sum in real estate.

In 1552 he traveled to Wittenberg where he studied for some years. After taking his master's degree there, he returned home in 1555 and immediately after his return to Ribe became associate professor at the cathedral and priest in Vester Vedsted, later also canon.

The probate extracts state the deceased, heirs, guardians, guardians and other specified family relations, and reference is made to probate after previous spouses. However, the guardian and guardian are not stated if they are already stated as family, just as the place of employment is not stated for heirs. No personal register has been prepared but personal names are standardized, e.g. both Laurs, Lars and Las are stated as Laurids, however a distinction is made between the names Lassen and Lauridsen. The spelling of place names follows Trap's 5th edition. Information in square brackets is not found in the current text, but is found in the church register, in censuses or elsewhere in the probate protocol. Reference is made to the page, however, no reference is made to the resumption of the shift if it takes place in immediate continuation of the previous one.

    Town Clerk Probate extract 1646-1814
Prepared by Erik Brejl. Ribesvej 3. 6950 Ringkøbing.

The probate extracts state the deceased, heirs, guardian, guardian and other specified family relations, and reference is made to probate after previous spouses.

The former Diocese of Ribe was a Roman Catholic diocese in Southern Jutland, Denmark. The diocese was established in 948, and dissolved in 1536 during the Protestant Reformation. Within the newly established protestant Church of Denmark, the Diocese of Ribe effectively replaced its Roman Catholic precursor.

The diocese contained 29 deaneries and 278 parishes. Its bishop also oversaw a number of monasteries and friaries, in addition to a hospital.

Johannes Laverentzen, Johannes Lauerentzen (Laurentzen) , ca. 1648-31.8.1729, historical and numismatic author, book printer. Born in Ribe, died in Copenhagen. (Nic. K.). L., who was the granddaughter of the historiographer AS Vedel, was 1680 Thomas Kingos amanuensis and was shortly after the royal. handwriting. In addition, he was closely associated with the art chamber. In 1703 he published a supplement to Holger Jacobæus' Museum Regium, and he published this work again in 1710, revised and enlarged. In 1693 he published Das preiszwurdigste Gedächtnüsz des Königs Friderich II,a popular laudatory account of the king's life and government, 1705 Vedel's surviving work on Svend Tveskæg with the preface to his Danish royal chronicle. He worked on a reworking of Vedel's translation of Saxo, but only managed to get The Danish Chronicle published in 1713 ,1st book, provided with remarks and pictures. His literary activity and long archival service earned him a commission in 1698 as a royal book printer, to which was attached the position of university book printer, otherwise against the wishes of the consistory. With the order came great and lucrative privileges: printing of ordinances, school books, newspapers, hymn books, Bibles. However, it held him hard to assert his rights, and his work has been strictly judged. In 1708 he was given the privilege of publishing a Bible, but it was not until 1716 that he had it printed. Therefore, in the mission college established in 1714, he became an active competitor in the printing of Bibles, and the publication of hymn books was released. As a publisher of newspapers he got in 1719 a more skilful competitor in the enterprising Joachim Wielandt. His printing house burned down in 1728, but he had put it back into operation when he died. In his wealthy home, the children of relatives and friends are brought up. Hans Gram was in his youth their preceptor and was thereby attached to L., so that he continued to act as proofreader, oversaw the printing of the works, yes, controlled the printing house at L.'s departure in the time of the plague. - Consistory Assessor 1698.

The probate extracts state the deceased, heirs, guardian, guardian and other specified family relations, and reference is made to probate after previous spouses.

The probate extracts state the deceased, heirs, guardian, guardian and other specified family relations, and reference is made to probate after previous spouses.

Little is known about his work as pastor. What we do know is that he gave out the hymn book A New Psalm-Bog / Contains the sædvanligste As Old As many new Psalms / Dende Allerhøjeste God of glory / And every Christen / as gierne siunger and promise the Lord with Psalms / Sange and Spirituality Displaying / For new rural Bridge and built up in 1717. This he published in the churches in Gottorp who would sing in German . In the book he had translated several hymns from German into Danish . The book was republished in 1730, but under the name A New Song Bog, which Contains the almindeligste both old and new Songs. The book was controversial, and the bishop thinks the book before the king. Despite this, the book came out in several editions, and it was used until the 1880s. In Norwegian Salmebok Aegidius is listed as the translator of two hymns. (Wikipedia, Google Translation into English)

Bertel Christian Giødesen, Bertel Christian Ægidius , 23.11.1673-3.4.1733, priest, hymn poet. Born in Bylderup, died in Varnæs, buried sst. G. was matriculated in Kiel 1693. As a student he published in 1700 a time-typical, quote-laden and bombastic eulogy (Ehren-Pyramide) over a 1697 deceased provost in Tønder, and n.å. he became parish priest in Varnæs south of Åbenrå fjord where he worked until his death. In 1717 he published A New Book of Psalms (414 hymns, here for the first time with numbers) to which was added A Little Devotional Prayer Book. The book is anonymous but the publisher is hinted at by the initials of the last three words of the preface: Promote the Glory of Christ. This "Flensburg" or "Varnæs-Psalm Book" illustrates the penetration and translation of the beginning pietism into Danish in the border region between the two languages. Its spiritual attitude is evident from the fact that after hymns to the church year, in addition to sections on the sacraments and on death and eternal life, there are detailed sections on penance and penance, on justification, on a divine life, on false and hypocritical Christianity, on the consolation and consolation of the soul. , on cross and sorrow. G. was of Danish descent - partly Schleswig (the mother was aunt of Enevold Ewald ), partly royal (in his grandmother's family tree are AS Vedel and Hans Tausen, and one uncle was the book printer Joh. Laverentzenin Copenhagen, who in 1709 published a hymn book for house devotion with 1010 numbers) - he had, however, gained German spiritual influence.

But precisely Pietism, though German, by making Christianity so personal, brought the Danish mother tongue in Schleswig to new meaning. As the Danish church language during this period spread in some parishes south of Tønder, so in the clergy circles felt the need for a new Danish hymnal. Kingos was authorized in the kingdom and the parts of Schleswig that had Danish canon law, but in the diocese of Schleswig different hymn books were used: in 1712 two German hymn books saw the light of day in the Gottorp countries, and in some places, such as Tønder, Løgumkloster and Højer, they even sang German hymns also at the Danish sermon. Perhaps stimulated by his uncle's book of hymns and supported by some local clergy, including his two brothers and Provost Sam. Reimarus in Tønder, G. then, probably 1713-14, prepared his hymn book which the Gottorp government intended to authorize in Åbenrå and Tønder counties. However, it was only published after being reviewed both in the diocese and by the most friendly of the Copenhagen theologians, prof.Hans Steenbuch . From the Gottorp side, one would probably prefer to avoid the royal. Danish kings and also from the side of the new revival. G. seems to have deliberately avoided the hymns recorded by Kingo in the recorded hymns, but he recorded his sacrament hymns in the hymnal: O Jesu, paa din Alterfod (in some German-like form which has many parallels: Herr Jesu, paa din Alterfod). For the Gospels he himself composed hymns which, however, are far from comparable to Kingos. The use of the older Danish hymn poetry, especially Hans Chr. Sthens, is also sparse. Most of the hymns are translations from German by G. himself or - in the case of older translations - by him brought closer to the German originals whose opening lines are printed. In 1731, E. Ewald tried to get his cousin's hymnbook entry into Copenhagen. by providing part of the edition with a new title page bearing the imprint of Steenbuch on the back. In 1734, however, Bishop Christian Worm lodged a complaint against the book with Christian VI: several hymns were distorted and illegitimate, and the mention of the authorities in the litany was unclear, but Ewald explained that this was because the hymnal had been created under the uncertain conditions of the war. In fact, the idea of Gottorp authorization had lapsed upon the incorporation of the ducal part in 1721. The Psalm Book of Psalms was reprinted in 1744, 1755 and 1765, in a few Schleswig parishes it was used for over a hundred years. It could only become a transitional phenomenon. Danish hymn poetry appeared here almost as a reverberation of German. The year before G.'s death, Brorson heralded a new Danish pietistic hymn poem which was to surpass the German one. Pontoppidan's hymn book 1740 contained the entire older Danish hymn treasure and a richer selection of the pietistic; it became the actual Schleswig. But Pontoppidan had occupied approx. 50 of G's translations and hymns; from here some entered the North Schleswig hymnal in 1890, and in Landstad's Norwegian hymnal for church and home G. is mentioned as a translator at nos. 407 and 464.Pontoppidan's hymn book 1740 contained the entire older Danish hymn treasure and a richer selection of the pietistic; it became the actual Schleswig.

    Notes:

    Birth:
Born in Bylderup, Tonder Co, Denmark abt 1673 to Gjøde Ægidius and Mette Ewaldsen.

Man må
skrælle meget bort, før man finder ind til de magre oplysninger om
    den afdødes liv.

  8. 33.  Anna Nielsdatter Struch Descendancy chart to this point (9.Niels3, 2.Maren2, 1.Anna1) was born 1669, Sønderho, Fanø, Denmark; died 1747, Sønderho, Fanø, Denmark.

    Notes:

    Birth:
    Niels Lauridsen Struch (1667-1703)
Born in 1642 and Borgermand's son from Ribe. In 1667 he became an aide and successor to Peder Laugesen. He married Laugesen's daughter, Ingeborg Pedersdatter. The couple had a son and a daughter. The daughter, Anna Nielsdatter Struch, married NL Struch's successor in office, Christian Olufsen Engelstoft.

    Marriage
    Christian Olufsen Engelstof
He was the son of Oluf Christensen Engelstoft and Margrethe Andersdatter Klyne. (Christian Olufsen Engelstoft was born in 1670 in Ribe and died on 17 Nov. 1742 in Sønderho, Fanø.)

    Priests

    At the original Sønderho Church:
    Peder Laugesen Lipstrup (1625-1667)

Peder Lauesen was a farmer's son from Lipstrup in Nebel parish. The same year he took office, he married his predecessor's widow, Margrethe Greisdatter Terpager.

The couple had many children, of whom those who lived long enough to reach adulthood all became priests. Except for the daughter who became a priestess.

Peder Lauesen had major problems with sand escape, and with the "enemies", and therefore complained to the diocesan authorities in 1654. From the complaint it can be seen that already in 1632 he had been granted an eternal pension by Lydom and Lønne parish and by Riberhus 2 tdr. rye and 2 tdr. barley.

He must have been a very capable and diligent man, and even prepared his 4 sons for the academy.

He died July 4, 1677, and was a priest for over 52 years.

    Jens Lauridsen Foss (1727-1749)

Born on 18 December 1694 as the son of parish priest Laurids Davidsen Foss in Pjedsted vicarage near Vejle.

JL Foss graduated from Horsens Latin School in 1715 and from the academy in 1719. After that he first taught children in various vicarages for 5 years, after which he taught at Ribe Latin School for 3 years.

On 28 February 1727 he became an assistant and successor to Christian Engelstoft, and finally he took over the office as parish priest in Sønderho on 22 May 1739.
Completely in line with Chr. Engelstoft's other activities, however, he did not resign from office without first making sure that Foss gave him a pension for the rest of his life! So Foss had to buy into the not very lucrative vocation.
To Foss' luck, it only took 3½ years before Engelstoft died.

Prepared by Erik Brejl. Ribesvej 3. 6950 Ringkøbing.
In the probate extracts, the deceased, heirs, guardians, guardians and other specified family relations are stated, and reference is made to probate after previous spouses. However, the guardian and guardian are not stated if they are already stated as family, just as the place of employment is not stated for heirs. No personal register has been prepared, but personal names are standardized, e.g. both Laurs, Lars and Las are stated as Laurids, however, the name Lassen is stated in the case of estate persons. The spelling of place names follows Trap's 5th edition. Information in square brackets is not found in the current text, but is found in the church register, in censuses or elsewhere in the probate protocol. Reference is made to the folio, however, no reference is made to the resumption of the shift if it takes place in immediate continuation of the previous one.
