    • Obituary: 22 Aug 2012, Los Alamos Monitor ; Erla Mae Larson Obituary It is with sorrow and peace that we notify those who knew and loved her that on Aug. 17, 2012, Erla Mae Larson, age 87, left her place in our world. She passed quickly and peacefully and has moved on in her journey. Erla Mae Kolbeck was born in Ferndale, Calif. on Jan. 7, 1925 to Chris and Christine Kolbeck. During early childhood the family moved to San Francisco, Calif. In 1942 at the age of 17, she graduated valedictorian of her class at Lick Wilmerding Lux Preparatory School in San Francisco. After graduation she traveled to Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. She planned to become a missionary nurse. She went to nursing school at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore. She graduated and became an RN in 1948. While in nursing school, she met her roommate's brother, Tom Larson. They fell in love and were married in January of 1949. They had three daughters while Tom was studying for his Ph.D. at John's Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. They moved to Los Alamos in 1956 where Erla Mae became a vibrant part of the Los Alamos community. She was a member of the Los Alamos Garden Club and with her partner Joyce Eyster, she started a successful catering business. After her children graduated from college, Erla Mae decided to return to nursing. She studied and in 1987 passed the nurses' exam and once again became an RN. While working as a nurse she co-authored a book, The Whole Way to Allergy Relief and Prevention. She decided to further study her lifelong interests of nutrition and natural healing and in 1999 she was awarded a Bachelor of Natural Health Sciences in Clinical Nutrition. In 2004, she became a doctor of natural medicine. Her knowledge of nutritional and natural health helped many people on their journeys to better health. She was always willing to give generously of her time and expertise. To her family and friends she was a counselor, a confidant, and a loving spirit. She will be dearly missed but remembered by all who came to know her. She is survived by her daughter Caryn Womack and husband Art, and their twins Anna and Seth; stepson Greg and wife Leslie; daughter Kathy Jacobs and husband Brandy; Dan Bertram; Greta Hanson, husband Ben and sons Ryan and Travis; brother-in-law Vernon Larson and wife Andy; and finally her beloved dog Kira. At her request she has been cremated. An Open House will be held at the home she loved and entertained in for years. We hope you will join us from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Aug. 25 at 2711 Walnut St., Los Alamos, N.M. to celebrate her love and life.
