PRESENTATION At Rydalmere
After 50 years' faithful service in the Education Department, fourteen of which have been spent as headmaster of Rydalamere Public School, Mr. H. D. Rewell is retiring on October 23, and was farewelled by the parishioners of St. Mary's, Rydalmere and a few close friends at a social evening and presentation at the Rydalmere Town Hall on Thursday, October 8.
The presentation and function were presided over by the Rev. Fr. P. J. Dempsey, P.P., and organised by Mrs.Cecil Kennedy. The presentation included a handsome eight-day clock, suitably inscribed, to Mr. and Mrs. Rewell, and a jewel-case to their daughter, Miss Gertie Rowell.
Mr. P. T. Dorahy paid a tribute to the sterling qualities of Mr. Rewell who was a most reliable and trustworthy teacher, and a man whole generosity had been a great help to all church organisations, particularly St. Vincent de Paul, and, in fact, any organisation connected with the district had his wholehearted support. He was a man whom the district could ill afford to lose.
Eulogistic speeches were also made by Rev. Fr. A. Bambridge (assistant priest), Ald. T. Dorahy and Mr. E. Staunton (late aldermnan, Ermington-Rydalmere).
Rev. Fr. Dempsey, in presenting the guest with the clock, expressed the wish that Mr. Rowell would be spared many years to enjoy his retirement. Mr. Rowell, upon rising to respond, was visibly affccted. He thanked the committee for their kind sentiment expressed. In all his years of service, he fourteen years spent in Rydalmere were the happiest of any, and he could safely say this in all sincerity, and he had always striven to do his duty. He felt the parting very much, and desired to thank all for the beautiful gifts tendered to his wife, his daughter and himself.
?For Auld Lang Syne" and "He's a Jolly Good Fellow" were then sung by the audience.
Musical items were rendered by Mr. Maguire (songs), Misses Bell (2) and Mrs. Cerizo (piano and violins), Mr. A. J. Christie (piano accompanist), Mr. J. Dorahy (songs), Mr. Rewell and Mrs. Cecil Kennedy (vocal duct), Mr. N. Norman (humorous songs), Mr. Davies (conjuring tricks), and Mr. A. Brown (songs).
Mrs. Cecil Kennedy acted as organiser.
Supper was served by the ladies of the parish, after which all engaged in dancing until 12 o'clock, when a very pleasant evening was brought to a close.

GOLDEN WEDDING.
Former headmaster of Rydalmere, Mr. H. D. Rewell and Mrs. Rewell, now living at Parramatta, celebrated their golden wedding recently. Mr. Rewell was 50 years with the Education Department, with appointments on the North Coast, at Windsor, and Parramatta districts. He retired eight years ago.
Miss G. Rewell, a daughter, entertained 50 guests at an afternoon party, presided over by Rev. Father Dempsey. Among those who entertained was the bridegroom of 50 years ago, who gave several songs.
HOLY MASS.
Holy Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church by Rev. Father Bambridge, when Mr. and Mrs. Rewell, with their united family, received Holy Communion.
There were present Sister Mary Evangelist, of Kyogle; Sister Mary Vianney, of Lane Cove; Sister Mary Germaine, of Kempsey, and Miss G. Rewell. The only son, Mr. F. Rewell, of Tamworth, was unavoidably absent, but was represented by his wife and children. The jubilarians were specially honored by the conferring of the Apostolic Benediction, transmitted through His Excelency Dr. Panico, who added his personal felicitations. His Lordship Dr. Carroll, Bishop of Lismore, also sent his congratulations and blessing. Rev. Father O'Donnell, P.P., of Parramatta, and the Rev. Father Doherty, P.P., of Forest Lodge, conveyed their congratulations personally.

He Wrote An Ode To Youth
At 82, Mr. Henry David Rewell, of Sorrell Street, Parramatta, can still sit down and dash off a column of verse with the greatest of ease. Inspired by the Catholic youth display at the Oval in Centenary of Education week, he went home, fished out his typewriter and went into an immediate huddle with his Muse.
The happy result is printed on page 10.
Mr. Rewell brought his latest verses to us on Friday, stepping up the old Argus staircase with all the verve and enthusiasm of a young commando. "Many's the time I've brought poems up those old stairs in the past 50 years," he confided. A Department of Education school teacher for over half a century, Mr. Rewell retired from the service 17 years ago as head- master of Rydalmere Public School. On January 23, 1890, he led to the altar at St. Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, Miss Sarah Elizabeth Murphy, then the belle of old Windsor. "And she is still as sweet and charming as ever," the old man chuckled. One son and four daughters were born of the marriage.
Three of the four sisters became nuns of the Mercy Order. Assured that his verses would appear, Mr. Rewell departed as happily as he had come. But he sternly refused an escort down the somewhat shaky old iron staircase. "Maybe yes, when I'm a hundred, but not for a youngster of 82." he said.
