Hobart.-Missing Victorian bushwalker David James Troedel had so much feeling for Tasmania?s rugged south-west that he gave $1200 towards its preservation his father said in Hobart yesterday.

He said he found receipts for donations to the south-west committees and the United Tasmania group at their East Brighton hone.

Now Mr. R. B. Troedel has flown to Tasmania to watch search operations for his son.

Mr Troedel said he had not heard from his son since he left him at Tullamarine to join a Hobart-bound flight on December 23.

David, who always sent a postcard with details of his plans and whereabouts on previous hiking trips, left his parents the message: "Sorry, mum, there'll be no notes this time."

He explained the country through which he intended walking would stop him from getting out regular messages.

"We haven't heard from him since," said Mr. Troedel.

David Troedel, 32 has not been seen since December 28 when he met up with other bushwalkers near Precipitous Bluff.

He gave some of his rations away to other walkers.

Mr Troedel, junior, an Aeronautical Research Officer is a member of the Melbourne University Bush-walking Club.

His father said yesterday his son had made several walks in the south-west.

He first took an interest in the region as far back as 1964, but started walking expeditions into the south-west in 1968.
