    Brisbane and Gympie Railway.
    SIR,
Being a strong advocate of the coast line of railway between Brisbane and Gympie, and there being so much difference of opinion respecting the routes, I venture to make a few remarks upon the respective merits of each of them. One of the routes proposed I consider to all intents and purposes useless, as there is one third of the distance between the Pine River and Mellum Creek totally unfit for the settlement of any population. Now, I think that the line taken by Enogerra, thence to the Upper South Pine, along the old Northern road to the junction of Sidling Creek with the North Pine River, would catch the traffic of the upper portion of that river; thence via Stoney Creek, tapping the rich agricultural district of the upper portion of Caboolture River, which is thickly settled; thence via Warabah towards Durundur, when it might slightly deviate by skirting the Blackall Range, and so on towards Mooloolah and Maroochie river. By adopting the last-mentioned route it would go through a rich agricultural district all the way, and be the means of opening up country which must remain dormant otherwise for some time to come, with the advantage of crossing the tidal streams towards their heads, which would be a great saving in expenditure in regard to the construction of bridges. I would suggest that the Government engage the services of a practical man to investigate and report on the merits of the last-mentioned route, and, if satisfactory, to institute a trial survey. If we are to have a railway, by all means let us have it where it will be of most benefit to the large section of the community, and where the line will repay interest on cost of construction; and it is to be hoped that our statesmen will hesitate and consider before they construct a line which can only benefit a few at the expense of the majority.-
I am, sir, &c., JOHN DOYLE. Neurum Creek, June 20.
