- Mr. W. Berry.
One of the early settlers of the State in the person of Mr. William Berry died at the residence of his son (Mr. E. H. Berry, Raymond's Hill, Ipswich) on Wednesday afternoon. The late Mr. Berry, who was 83 years of age, was born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and left England when 34 years of age, landing with his wife and two young sons at Townsville. He shortly afterwards came to Brisbane, and for 30 years was employed by the firm of T. C. Dixon, boot manufacturers. He was keenly interested in cricket and football, being a president of the South Brisbane Football Club, and also a president and life member of the South Brisbane Cricket Club. For many years he was connected with the Ancient Order of Foresters, and also with the Friendly Societies' Hospital. Since retiring from work in 1914 he resided at Hill End, Brisbane, till the death of his wife a little over a year ago. Since then he has resided alternately with his two sons at Ipswich and Brisbane. He is survived by two sons-Mr. E. H. Berry (Raymond's Hill) and M. R. W. Berry (Morning- side). There are also five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral, which left Ipswich for the Bulimba Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, was conducted by the Rev. J. R. M. Hall (St. Thomas's Church of England, North Ipswich).
