WADE - On 5th June 1906, accidentally killed at Brooweena, Joseph, beloved husband of Mary Wade, of Evergreen, Gundiah, aged 66 years.

Accidental death 6 Jun 1906  Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser, Queensland Find all individuals with events at this location
A most distressing fatality occurred near Brooweena yesterday morning, through which Mr Joseph Wade, senr., one of our oldest and most widely known district settlers, met with a painfully sudden death. It appears that Mr Wade was visiting his son at Wadeleigh, and at about nine o'clock yesterday was out inspecting some drought horses in company with two of his sons and Mr Geo. Phillips. When the party arrived at a gate the deceased gentleman dismounted, and with the bridle hanging lightly on his wrist. Mr Wade went to take something out of his pocket, but hardly had he put his hand in, when the horse drew back, throwing the unfortunate gentleman under its feet, where his chest was badly trampled upon. Seeing that the accident was a serious one, his son at once despatched a telegram to Maryborough for Dr H. C. Garde, who proceeded to the scene by special train, without delay, but before he arrived Mr Wade had passed away. Immediately after the accident he had been removed on a stretcher to the residence of Mr R. Maitland at Westwood, where he breathed his last about two hours and a half after the accident had occurred.
The deceased gentleman arrived in Maryborough in 1864 from England in the ship Prince Consort, and immediately afterwards proceeded out into the district to engage in pastoral pursuits. The first seven years he spent on Miva, and after that he was engaged in managing one of the out stations of Widgee for about two years. He then settled down at Evergreen, Gundiah, and had remained there ever since, devoting himself to horse breeding, and dairying.
He leaves a widow and four sons, Messrs R.W.F.J. T., George, and Joseph, and two daughters, Misses A. and E. Wade, all of whom are very widely known and respected throughout the district, and much sympathy will be felt for them in their extremely sad bereavement.
The body was brought down to Maryborough last night, but will be conveyed to Tiaro tomorrow for interment at the Tiaro Cemetery. The funeral will leave the Tiaro Station at 11.30 a.m.
Mr Wade was in Maryborough during the recent carnival week, and attended the Show. The news of his sudden death will come as a great shock to his many Maryborough friends.
