Bargenquast-Matthew
The Sacred Heart Church, Childers, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, September 4, when Phoebe Mary Matthew, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Matthew, Booyal, was joined in the bonds of holy matrimony to Archibald Bargenquast, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bargenquast, "Mayfair," Boompa. The church was beautifully decorated with gerberas and roses by friends Of the bride. Rev. Father Healy officiated at the ceremony. As the brjde entered the church on the arm of Mr P. Cox, who subsequently gave her away (owing to the absence of her father), she looked charming in a gown of heavy white georgette, with fully fashioned sleeves, pintucked to mould into the figure, the skirt having godets , and panels of lace, which fell to the floor in grace full folds. Her sweeping veil was of embroidered tulle, worn cap fashion, held in position with a coronet of orange blossoms. The bride carried a trailing bouquet of eucharist lilies, roses and maiden hair fern, tied with white satin streamers to which was attached a silver horse-shoe. White gloves and shoes completed the bride's toilette.
Miss Eileen Egan, a close friend of the bride, attended her as bridesmaid, wearing an ankle length frock of pink kabe crepe, faggoted at the neckline with open frilled flared sleeves. The skirt was pintucked to mould into the figure with godets in the skirt, which fell into tiny folds at the hem. She wore hat, gloves and shoes to tone and carried a bouquet of pink roses, gerberas and maiden hair fern, tied with pink satin streamers.
Little Miss Mary Matthew attended as flower girl, and wore an ankle length frock of blue georgette, trimmed on the skirt with narrow blue ribbon. She wore a blue tulle veil, held to the head with a coronet of tiny blue forget-me-nots and carried a basket of sweet peas, carnations, and forget-me-nots. The bridegroom was at tended by Mr. "Bill" Egan as best man.
After the ceremony the guests motored to Crowe's Cafe, Childers, where the reception was held. Mrs. Matthew received the guests wearing a smart frock of figured kabe crepe, with accessories to tone. Her posy was of pansies and asparagus fern. She was assisted by Mrs. J. Bargenquast, wearing a frock of figured sheer romaine with hat and shoes to tone, also carrying a posy of pansies and fern. The chief attraction of the beautifully laid tables was a three-tier wedding cake, which was purchased from McDonnell and East Ltd., Brisbane. Mrs. A. Bargenquast chose a travelling frock of figured bemberg georgette, to which she added a navy hat, and navy accessories.
