OBITUARY
Mr. c. H. Kunst.-One of the pioneers of the Miva district, Mr. Claus Henning Kunst, 86 years and 10 months died on November 14. Mr. Kunst had arrived at Tiaro over 69 years ago and was the last of four brothers prominent in the development of the Munna Creek-Miva district for over hall a century. Their combined ages totalled 337 years and their resptctive families, 32, eight of whom pre-deceased them. Mr.Claus Kunst was born in 1857 at Havholz, Schleswig, then part of Denmark but a few years later annexed by Germany.
At the age of 17 he secured a passage to London to join the immigrant sailing ship, Isles of the South, and arrived at Brisbane four and a half months later. For some years he engaged in rural work, chiefly fencing, and selected land on Munna Creek in 1882. For many years he worked the property as a partner in the farming firm of H. and N. Kunst, but in latter years devoted his attention to grazing with the assistance of his sons.
The late Mr. Kunst was a generous
supporter of local public movements and keen follower of the activities of the Munna Creek Cricket Club. He was a trustee of the cricket ground and hall since its erection. He is survived by his widow (nee Miss Isabella McWatters, whom he married in 1885), four sons Messrs Andrew, Thomas, William, Arthur and Albert Edward Kunst also 11 grand-children and one great grandson. One son, James predeceased him by three years.
