Razorback or Montville |
EARLY SETTLER. |
MR. HARRY SMITH.
"Harry Smith!"
Harry Smith selected 154 acres, and there are now nine families on this land. "I suppose you know that this town was first called 'Razorback,' as it is built on a narrow neck of ground. There was another Razorback in Queensland, however, and as confusion often resulted it was necessary that the name should be changed. That was in 1899. "Mr. R. Remington was the first settler," said Mr. Smith, in reply to a question. "Mr. H. Muirhead, and Mr. W. H. Harvey, who is now dead, but was formerly chaairman of the Maroochy Shire, were among the first comers. There was also Mr. George Butt, whose father is the grand old man of Maroochydore. George Butt still lives close to me in Montville," Mr Smith has nine children living. His place has a prosperous look, and life seems to have repaid him for his grit in venturing out into the wilds. His home which is substantial, well built, andv picturesque, lies within a few hundred yards of the Post Office.
