      DEATH OF MRS. TOPHAM.
      AN INQUEST.
An inquest concerning the death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Topham, wife of Mr. Reginald Topham, a postal employee, was held at the Goulburn Courthouse this (Thursday) morning.

The evidence went to show that at about 8 p.m. on June 28 Mrs. Topham, who was suffering from neuralgia, retired to her room with her son Edwin, aged 8. She undressed and sat down in front of the fire, and was sitting there about half
an hour, when the flannelette nightdress she was wearing caught fire, and she was immediately enveloped in flames. The boy Edwin attempted to extinguish the flames and Carl Coughlan, who was attracted by deceased's screams, finally succeeded in doing so. Deceased told her husband that she did not know how the dress caught fire, but she might have been asleep for a moment. The lower portion of the body up to the breast was badly burned.

Evidence was given by Reginald Victor Topham and Edwin Albert Topham, and the inquiry was adjourned till Thursday to hear medical evidence.

Mrs. Topham resided with her father, Mr. Edward T. Coughlan, in Grafton-street
