    A GOLDEN WEDDING.
A pleasant gathering took place yester day at Ormonts, Wynnum, when Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Tardent celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Mr. Henry Tardent is a Queenslander of nearly 40 years standing, having come to Bribane in December, 1887. He was born in 1853 at Ormonts, Switzerland. At 16 he emigrated to Poland, and later to Russia, where he was a successful student at the University of Odessa, and was afterwards appointed master of modern languages in an Imperial High School. In 1876 he married Miss Hortense Tardent, a distant relative and granddaughter of Professor J. Tardent, of Vevey, who, at the invitation of Emperor Alexander I. had founded, in 1822, a prosperous colony of Swiss vinegrowers of Cherbourg, in the province of Bessarabia, which had just been conquered from the Turks. On coming to Queensland, Mr. Henry Tardent was for some years engaged in vinegrow ing and farming in Western Queensland where he also held office for a term as alderman of the Roma Municipal Council, and was a wellknown and successful exhibitor at the local shows. Later he was entrusted with the establishing and managing of Westbrook, the first agricultural experimental farm in this State, also that of Biggenden, in the Burnett district. Resigning his official position, Mr. Tardent contested the Burnett seat in the Labour interest without success. Subse quent, Mr. Tardent entered the profes sion of journalism, and, in addition to his work for Queensland journals, he has for some years been a contributor to Swiss, French, and American publications. Among his literary publications was "For Freedom's Cause," a record of Australia's part in the world war, which was awarded first prize at the Maryborough Eisteddfod. Of Mr. and Mrs. Tardent's family of 12, three sons and four daughters are still living. Three sons served with distinction in the A.I.F., one being killed in action, and another severely wounded. The, remaining members of the family are in civil occupations. There are 26 grandchildren, and one great grandchild, all natives of Queensland.
