- Alice is believed to belong to the Badtjala Tribe, their region being the Wide Bay-Burnett area including Fraser Island.
The Badtjala people have lived on the world's largest sand island, Thoorgine (Fraser Island), since time immemorial. By the early part of the twentieth century, however, most of the Badtjala population had been massacred by white settlers and the survivors removed to Christian missions on the island or the mainland.

Butchulla Tribe
The Butchulla people are the Traditional Owners of K'gari (Fraser Island).
For more than 5000 years, perhaps as many as 50,000 years, Butchulla people lived in harmony with the seasons and the land and sea, maintaining a balance between spiritual, social and family connections.
Today the Butchulla people continue to walk the cultural pathway of their ancestors, whom they believe have lived on this country since the beginning of the Dreaming.
Because the Butchulla language did not come from a written culture, this nation has been referred to variously as: Butchulla, Badjala, Badjula, Badjela, Bajellah, Badtjala and Budjilla.

Obituary.
There passed away at her residence "Travellers Rest," Brooweena, on Saturday, 16 inst., an old and highly respected resident of the district, in the person of Mrs. Alice Thomsen, at the age of 66 years.
The deceased who was the daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Hutchinson, of Tiaro, was beloved and respected by a very wide circle of friends to whom the news of her death came as a severe shock.
During her 32 years residence in this district she had intimately associated herself with every movement for its advancement and welfare. All her life she had been a devoted member of the Methodist church and in her later she was an enthusiastic member of the Women's branch of the C.W.A. Of a most generous and kindly disposition, she was at all times willing and eager to lend her assistance, to any good cause, and the community is poorer by her dimise.
Besides a sorrowing husband, Mr. Sophus Thomsen, who has been a valued member of the Woocoo Shire Council for several years. The deceased leaves a family of five sons and six daughters, namely Messrs Albert and Peter (North Queensland), Noble, Sophus and Edward (Brooweena), Mesdames J.J. Bargenquast (Boompa), G. Davies (Babinda), E. Vanderwolf (Deborah), A. Wilson (Hivesville), and W. Dale (Gomerri). One daughter died in childhood. There are thirty grandchildren and one Great Grandchild.

Notes |
- Alice's story is difficult, There is no birth certificate, as in 1860's aboriginal children were not registered, often Marriage and Death certificates were not issued either. Alice met her future husband after a horse riding accident where Sophus Thomsen was thrown from his mount and was being dragged by the stirrups, She was with a group of Aboriginal people who nursed him back to health, They did not marry straight away, they had Mary, Albert, and Peter before they married officially. There are many family stories about alice so what is true and what is a great yarn is yet to be decided.
