Cobden is a suburb to the north of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The Grey separates Cobden from the rest of Greymouth. To the north is the Rapahoe Range, also called the Twelve Apostle's Range. State Highway 6 skirts the south-eastern edge of Cobden.
The Greymouth area has a colourful history of gold and coal mining, timber and fishing
When the mining industry started to decline, forestry became a new staple industry. Fishing has long been important to the town
The gold mining days are over. But dairy farming is still a valuable staple of the local economy
