Engelstoft, Christian, 1734-1803, Priest, was born 28 May 1734 in Barmer Præstegaard near Nibe, where his father, Laurids Struch E., was Parish Priest. The mother was Maren Bjørn b. Kragelund. He became a student in 1750 from Aalborg School, and 4 years later he submitted to Attestats. But it took a full 17 years before he received clerical appointment; then his father needed his help as chaplain (1771). 2 years later he was appointed parish priest in Gislum between Hobro and Løgstør and could now bring home his bride, Eleonore Hedvig Lillelund (d. 1815), a daughter of the among others. a. by his Church history confessed Priest L. In the remote Parsonage he cultivated with Iver the classical studies, especially the Latin language, and his home was for a number of years like a small school, in which he prepared several young people for university. In so doing he did not neglect his ministry, but was also a
skilled and generally regarded pastor. In 1779 he also became Herredsprovst. After 10 years of activity
in Gislum, he was transferred in 1783 to Vive-Ove-Valsgaard Pastorate and in 1786 to Næsborg-Salling-Ovtrup. In this office he died Feb. 15th. 1803. The historian Laurids E. (s. Ndfr.) Was the son of him.
