  • Name Laurids Gilesen/Æggidiisen
    • Lauridsen, Ægidius, 1568-1627, Rector, Prelate,
was born 15. Sept. 1568 in Ribe, where his father, M. Laurids Gilesen (or Æggidiisen), was then Rector and later became Priest (d. 1597); his Mother was Sophie Iversdatter Stub (d. 1591). In 1586 he became a Student
from Ribe School. In 1591 he traveled to Germany to study further; in Zerbst he published in 1593 «Oratio de cometarum genere et subjecto».
Returning home, he took his Master's degree in Copenhagen in 1595 and in 1596 became Rector of Ribe School. In 1599 he married M. Anders Sørensen Vedel's daughter Maren, who gave him 15 children. As rector, he must have preached from time to time, when he had once been almost assaulted because he had been zealous from the pulpit towards drinkers and "street basses." When he had been endowed with the Archidiaconate in Ribe Chapter in 1603 , he resigned as Rector in 1605 and has since lived as a Prelate at the Cathedral. He died April 21, 1627, and his wife June 28, 1639. Some biographical records are kept from his hand, especially a beautiful memoirof his father-in-law, And. Vedel. His greatest merit
in historical respect, however, is that he has collected a number of important pieces of information about the Kalmar War (published by A. Kall in «Nye Danske
      Mag.» II).
