    • County bailiff at Mors
      Christian Jensen, 1440-1490.
The bailiff has been the king's representative in the county council since the 14th century. Until the introduction of autocracy in 1660-61, the sheriff was appointed by the sheriff. In the beginning, the sheriff, as attorney for the sheriff, represented the king's interests in the county council, including the conduct of trials; from approx. In 1400 he became chairman of the parliament and judged together with the parliamentarians. In the 16th century, the sheriff was the sole judge, but had to judge along with other courtiers by death sentences. During the same period, most of the sheriff's administrative tasks were transferred to riding bailiffs and division bailiffs, after which the sheriff was mainly only a judge.
