He met the love of his life, Vieno (Vee) Viola Pontinen (1910-2007) at a dance in Grand Coulee, Washington.
He had to go into the service and she was teaching, but they eventually married on June 7 at the Hitching Post in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Ed and Vee were both teachers and they started married life living in Coulee Dam and Grand Coulee. She taught grade school and then high school. After teaching for several years they moved to the Nansen family farm in Almira. They gave up their teaching careers and spent over 40 years farming. They retired to Electric City in the 80s, buying a home there.
