  	DORIS RAE CHRISTIANSEN HASTINGS-Doris Hastings passed away peacefully on April 2, 2016 and was very proud to have recently celebrated her 95th birthday. She was born to Chris and Lucinda Rae Wilkinson Christiansen in Fortuna on February 22, 1921, the second eldest of five siblings. The family lived in Ferndale at that time before moving to Arcata where she attended Stewart Grammar School and Arcata High School. The family returned to Ferndale her sophomore year where she graduated from Ferndale High School in 1938. After attending Merritt Business College in Oakland, she went to work for the office of Morrison & Morrison in Eureka, continuing her employment with them her entire working years retiring in 1988. Mom married our Dad, Charles H. "Chuck" Hastings, on July 30, 1943. They were married 52 years before his passing on June 19, 1995. They had three daughters: Sharon Lynn (Denny) Katri, Sandi Lee Bella and Mary Lou (Ray) Kimberling. She was the sister of the late Clifford Christiansen, Edward Christiansen and Mary (Gene) Whitney. She is survived by her brother, Richard (Joan) Christiansen of Benicia. Mom is also survived by her grandchildren: Shelly (Todd) Rice, JJ (Aarin) Katri, Lisa Lorenzen, Lori Pearce, Ryan Kimberling and Emily (Dustin) Pulitano; her great-grandchildren Hayley and Hunter Rice, Abiona and Sawyer Katri, Ashley Pearce (Marcus) Powell, Linus, Lacey and Broghan Lorenzen, Brinslee Glavich, Brooke Spencer, Paige Lyons, Ryder Breckenridge, Julian Pulitano, her great-great-granddaughter Abigail Lange, her son-in-law Denny Katri and many extended family members. Besides her parents, husband, brothers and sister, Mom is also predeceased by her step-father Lloyd Brightman, her daughter Sharon Katri, her granddaughter Kimberly Katri, and her great-grandsons Jacob Spencer and Kale King. In her earlier years, Mom enjoyed spending time with her many friends, getting together for lunches, dinners and Wednesday night socials at the Elks Lodge. She also loved to knit and crochet and we are very fortunate to have many of her beautiful afghans that she made for us. For the past several years Mom has lived at Frye's Care Home where she met and made many new and dear friends. She was very happy living there and loved Dolly and her staff just like her family. We are very grateful to them for taking such loving care of her throughout her stay. When she wasn't participating in one of their daily activities, Mom could be found reading one of her Danielle Steel novels that she looked forward to every day. Mom is loved and will be missed by all of us. The family would like to thank Dr. Uzi M. Selcer and, more recently, Dr. Petra Kuhfahl for their care of Mom over the last several years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Humboldt for their care, guidance and support to all of us during this difficult time. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Mortuary in Fortuna. Interment will be at the Christiansen Family Plot in the Ferndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to honor her name be made to COTA (Children's Organ Transplant Association) established for the benefit of the continuing medical costs of her great-granddaughter, Ashley Pearce, who received a triple organ transplant January 28, 2014. Contributions payable to COTA in honor of Ashley Pearce, may be sent to 2501 West Cota Drive, Bloomington, Indiana 47403.
