Mr. W. H. Thorne, brother of Mrs. Sims,
of Bounty-street, Lismore, has now seen a Sydney specialist, who holds out little hope of his recovery. Though a native of Victoria, Mr. Thorne is one of the pioneers, of the Lismore district. He was a member of the first council of Terania Shire and continutrd
to sit as a councillor for many years, resigning his seat about seven years ago. He still possesses several farms in the district, he is being brought to his summer house at Tenterfield. At Brunswick Heads he has a winter residence.

The death of William Henry Thorne, which
occurred, in Sydney last week, removes one who was connected with this district for a period of over 30 years, and who was universally respected. The late Mr. Thorne first came to the district in the capacity of a traveller, and after plying this avocation for a number of years settled on the land at Jiggi, and went in for dairying. By cloce attention to his
farm he was soon able to add to his acreage, eventually acquiring a considerable amount of this world's riches, which enabled him to retire. He then took up his residence at the Brunswick Heads, where he resided for a number of years, thence going to Tenterfield, still retaining his
properties at Jiggi and Brunswick. When
local government, came into force Mr. Thorne was elected at the first election to a seat in Terania Shire, which he filled in a capable manner until his removal from the district, While, residing at the Brunswick he was elected a councillor of the Byron
Shire, rendering the same signal services as in the Terania Shire. Deceased was a lover of clean sport, taking a particular interest in cricket and football, and was instrumental
in arranging the visit of the Tenterfield cricketers and footballers to Lismore this year. "Harry" Thorne, as he was known to his most intimate friends, was extremely popular wherever he went, and his legion of friends in this district wore shocked to hear of his demise, which was the result of a
stroke. Mr. Thorne, leaves a wife, but no offspring, to mourn his loss.
