    OBITUARY

    MR. JAMES CAIRNS

Mr. James Cairns, retired railway guard and resident of Bundaberg for very many years, died on Wednesday at his residence. Burnett-street. South Bundaberg. aged 81 years. The late Mr. Cairns was a native of Kildare, Ireland and came out to Queensland 63 (?) years ago. Shortly afterwards he joined the railway service and for many years prior to his retirement 14 years ago he held the position of guard. As such he discharged his duties with satisfaction to the Department and at the same time realised his responsibilities to the railway customers and public generally to whom he was most courteous and obliging. A man of Christian ideals, he was liked by everyone with which he came into contact, regardless of class or creed. He was a devout Presbyterian, an elder of St. Andrew's Church Bundaberg. and for very many years he was superintendent of the Sunday school. His passing will be regretted among a large circle of friends and associates. The late Mr. Cairns, who was married at Maryborough, is survived by his widow and three daughters, namely, Mrs. W. R. Fleming, Mrs. Watkins (Brisbane) and Miss Jessie Cairns.
