    James Agidius

    Viewing for James Peter Agidius, 80, will be held today from 9 a.m. to noon at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.

    Mr. Agidius, who was born in Portland, died Friday of complications from lung disease.

    He grew up near The Dalles, Ore., and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1936 and worked for several cattle ranches.

    Mr. Agidius joined the Navy in 1938 and went on active duty in 1939. He served on the Light Cruiser USS Honolulu, surviving the raid on Pearl Harbor.

    Mr. Agidius served in the Pacific Theatre and then was stationed in Washington, D.C., in 1944.

    He returned to The Dalles after his military service in 1946 and then moved to Kodiak, Alaska, where he served as master of arms on Kodiak Naval Base for three years.

    Mr. Agidius moved to Moscow and joined the University of Idaho ROTC staff as an instructor, teaching from 1949-52, and then moved to Virginia for six years, where he went to sea with the amphibious fleet, including spending time in the Mediterranean Sea.

    Mr. Agidius returned to Moscow in 1958 and continued with the university ROTC program. He retired in 1962 as a Senior Chief Gunners Mate-GMS 8.

    He worked at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow as a maintenance/ electrical engineer for 18 years before retiring again.

    Mr. Agidius was a member of the American Legion Dudley Loomis Post 6 in Moscow, and helped organize the Junior Rifle Club through the American Legion and Eagles Lodge.

    He was past president of the local chapter of the National Wildlife Federation and was a member of the Moscow Church of the Nazarene.

    Mr. Agidius was a member of the Twin Butte Bowling Team and ran the Twin Butte Evergreens Christmas Tree Farm for more than 25 years.

    Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Netta; six children, Pat Agidius of Kirkland, Wash., Jeanne Kalbfleisch of Yakima, Paul Agidius and Carrie Agidius, both of Moscow, Kathy Kite of Boise and Hazel Bryan of Colfax, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
