1950-1: Worked on large mixed farm in Essex
1951-2: Worked on smaller mixed farm in Suffolk
April 1952 onwards: Farm manager of 56 acre mixed farm.'
Studied agriculture at Chadacre College, Suffolk, briefly lived at/ran Valley Farm at Wissett, Suffolk, and ran an estate agency with his father.
Later he founded 'Simpson's Dental', supplying equipment and materials to dentists. Sold business to SS White.

1946-7: Inter-house football.
1947-48: Senior house football.
Mar 1948: Left school from Form IVA.
1948: Joined the Old Mercers' Club (membership number 675).
'Alan did not stay at School into the examination years and seems to have kept a relatively low profile though he played football for Whittington House.'
