    Notes
    • Famille METZGER

      Mathias a eut 9 enfant :

      Family METZGER
Descent METZGER Mathias, born about 1587
à Dominique BARBIER, né en 1947

The METZGER family, whose name was originally Metzgar is an Austrian family who came to settle in the Grand Duchy of Baden in the fifteenth century. Its members have distinguished themselves as great warriors. As a reward for their bravery and their value, they received weapons and worn as an eagle and a battle ax on their helmet with shield surmounted by a crown (arms deposited in the archives of Mainz (Mainz)).

We go to Mathias Metzger, born about 1587 in Hugsweier near Lahr, who married November 8, 1611 Anna Maria Leppert (or Leppertin) and who then resided in Hugsweier. During the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), they were forced to move frequently to escape famine and plague. At the end of the war they returned to Hugsweier then part of the principality of Nassau-Usingen (who later became the Grand Duchy of Baden). During the period in which they lived with relatives in Kettenheim in Palatine, a son was born. They called him Theobald. He was later known as Theobald von Metzger Weibnom or Theobald Weibnom, friend of King William III, Lieutenant-General under the Dutch flag and governor of Breda in the Netherlands. The family was poor, the pastor of Weibbenheim (Weibnom), who was a friend of the family, took charge of the education of Theobald to age 18. On 14 January 1685, Mathias Metzger died. He was buried in Hugsweier, his wife having predeceased him. Theobald, who was the heir of the family farm, did not manifest themselves and inheritance was divided between his brothers and sisters.
      Mathias had nine children:
Johann, who married, came to settle in Bregsach, Alsace, and we descend
George, who married and settled in Offenbach, in the Grand Duchy of Baden
Michael, who married, moved to Mollsheim, and whose descendants emigrated to the United States
      Mathias, who died childless
      Thomas, who died childless
      Ulrich, who died childless
Barbara, who married Sigmund Zimmerman. They settled in Colmar (Alsace) and later Aarsburg (Switzerland) with Sigmund was born.
Sara, who married Pierre Steinman Strasbourg. Their son Johann landed in Philadelphia (USA) September 19, 1732.
Theobald, quoted above, which was not married and had no offspring.
