Vor Frelsers Kirke, Christianshavn, København (Church of Our Saviour)
Church of Our Saviour (Danish: Vor Frelsers Kirke) is a baroque church in Copenhagen, Denmark, most famous for its corkscrew spire with an external winding staircase that can be climbed to the top, offering extensive views over central Copenhagen. It is also noted for its carillon, which is the largest in northern Europe and plays melodies every hour from 8 am to midnight.

Værnedamsvej is a small street on the municipal boundary between Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The street stretches over 190 meters and connects Gammel Kongevej with the junction where Vesterbrogade and Frederiksberg Allé meet. The name comes from Werner Damm (d. 1762), who in the 1730s ran a popular eatery in the street. The street was formerly known for its many butcher shops, but today there is only one. Instead there are many small shops and cafés, and the street currently has a Parisian flair. Here the shops has moved out on the streets for a bit of celebration.

Wilhelm Christian Bohnsack
Wilhelm Christian Bohnsack
Drawn by an artist at Dnjepropetrowsk, Reichskommissariat Ukraine (now Dnipro, Ukraine). The braid around the shoulderboards confirm him as an NCO (non-commissioned officer), but the part denoting rank was not drawn so he could have been Unteroffizier, Unterfeldwebel, Feldwebel or Oberfeldwebel. The collar tabs were common to many ranks, but as a medical man the dark lines would have been blue.

‘Dnjepropetowsk’ is an old spelling for the Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk, and there was indeed a POW camp (kriegsgefangenenlager) there. From Jan 1942 – Feb 1943 it was called Stalag 348 (source https://www.moosburg.org/info/stalag/laglist.html ) which from what his daughter Hanna related (2016) is likely to be where the portrait was drawn.
