    • Obituary: 28 Feb 1889, Tondernsche Zeitung; Death/Obituary.- 28. February In these days after a short illness in the age of 80 years died District Head Clerk, Mr Jessen-Tinningstedt, Chairman of our Farmunion for many years. In the beginning of January this year he declared that he would resign due to his age. At that time he still could walk 5-6 km from Tinningstedt and back again and make speeches, but he complained over increasing weakness. At the next board meeting it was decided to honour Mr. Jessen with a Honourmember Diploma. The diploma was ready made, but he died before he was given the diploma. The deceased was in his long life hardworking and diligent and tried to have a simple life. He was given a lot of missions, which he willingly received without any complaint and a bright mind and politeness. He wanted to help others with his knowledge and willingness. His speeches weren't long and the debate was more different remarks, which could stir up people- and did it. He was a common and kind man and easy to get along with. He will be missed, not only by his family. For the many shown present from all over, especially thoughts at the death, as well as the many wreaths and flowers and the comforting words from the priest at the funeral of my beloved husband and our dear father, Chr.Joh. Jessen, we hereby express our deepfelt thanks. The mourning relatives. Two thirds of the Duchy of Schleswig was divided into Ämter (administrations) which were under sovereign rule. The other third was distributed into hetergeneous entities, i.e., "Landschaften", "oktroyierte Köge", "adlige Güter", "Kanzleigüter", "geistliche Institutionen" and "Städte". A Amt was divided into 14 Harden which had lower judicial and police jurisdiction, which was overseen by a Hardevogt. Manors (Güter) had their own jurisdictions since 1524. "Vogteien", "Landschaften", oktroyierte Köge" and cities also had their own jurisdictions. "Kanzleigüter" had another form of administrative measures. They were partly under the Amt or Harde.

Until 1864 seven parishes south of Kolding, between Königsau und Ribe as well as the island of Aero belonged to the Duchy of Schleswig. They became Danish after Schleswig became Prussian. This was an exchange for the royal Danish enclaves at the west coast of Schleswig (territories administered by Ribe Amt).

Holstein was a German fiefdom and therefore belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. It was divided into three parts: the royal Danish part belonging to the King of Denmark and the other two parts belonging to the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Hardersleben and the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf. Later Dithmarschen became part of the Duchy of Holstein. Land exchanges and extinction of ducal lines brought Holstein under the Danish crown and then under German rule.

Today Schleswig-Holstein is divided into Landkreise
