    Other Events:

    • History: 1870 onwards, Eumundi, Qld; Earliest Eumundi Settlers In the year 1870 Mr. Joseph Gridley arrived in Eumundi, acquiring land adjoining the north east portion of the area (the present business section). Then Mr. T. J. Ball, coming in 1882, had to virtually brush his way through from Tewantin. His purpose was to produce cane sugar. He settled near the Main Camp (railway camp). Others who followed included E. H. Arundell, A. Trundle, H. Bennett, C Blomfield and W. Burrell. Cobb & Co.'s coach travelled from Yandina to Belli Park, where Eumundi residents collected their mail. The coach then continued to Gympie. Many of these settlers engaged in the timber industry. Mr. Andrew Luke, who selected land in. Eumundi, is living with his family. He is aged 90. At Main Camp a school and hotel were built. In 1895 Mr. George Etheridge arrived at the Main Camp. He intended to start a sugar mill, but sugar at that time was a failure. He brought machinery to Eumundi in 1900 and opened a sawmill. By this time Eumundi possessed a butcher's shop, a store and blacksmithing business. The timber industry had then become established. The first bank (ES. & A.) was opened in 1909; and the present school of arts was erected in 1912. In the latter year there were between ?0 and 70 bullock teams operating in the district.
