    • Obituary: 9 Apr 1930, The Brisbane Courier, Queensland; THE LATE MRS. AUSTIN. The numerous friends of the late Mrs. Robert Austin will learn with regret of her death at Glenalbyn, Oxley road, Corinda, on Friday, April 4, at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Austin was among the earliest arrivals in Queensland, having sailed with her father, the late Mr. Robert Douglas, in the barque Baboo 423 tons; Captain Barker, from London, leaving the Downs on June. 27, 1847, and arriving in Brisbane on October 23. Her eldest brother, Mr. Robert Douglas, of St. Maria station, Morven, was also a young passenger, and her aunt, Miss Agnes Douglas, afterwards Mrs. John Stevens, of Redbank. The deceased lady's childhood waa spent in Limestone, now called Ipswich, and her girlhood at The Willows, Kangaroo Point, the riverside home of her father, from which she was married on October 22, 1862, to Mr. Robert Austin, O.E., engineer of roads and works for the Southern district. The marriage took place at St. John's Church, when the Rev. J. R. Moffatt officiated. Sir George and Lady Bowen, having been attracted on their arrival by the lovely face and winsome manner of Mrs. Austin, were always interested in her, and sent their carriage for use at her wedding, a graceful attention, as vehicles at that time were scarce. Mr. and Mrs. Austin lived for many years at Eagle's Cliff, North Quay. Some years later Mrs. Austin became a member of the Lady Bowen Hospital Committee, and also was one of the first movers in the creche, which was then established. She was predeceased by her husband in February, 1905. Mrs. Austin had ten children (four sons and six daughters), five of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Richard Dowse (Rose Bay, Sydney), Miss P. Austin, Mrs. A. W. Horsfall, Mrs. A. D. M'Kay, and Mr. Augustus Gregory Austin, of Gympie. Her eldest son, Major Colin Douglas Austin, 3rd Batt., 1st Inf. Brigade, New South Wales, gave his life for his country at the Battle of Lone Pine . Gallipoli, on August 6, 1915 Transcribed from "The Brisbane Courier. Queensland, Wednesday 9 April 1930"
