    • Obituary: May 1934, The Nowra Leader, NSW; Death of Mr. D. McLean. The death of Mr, Donald McLean, of Benumont, oocurrcd in a private hospital in Nowra, on Wednesday last, whither he was admitted as a patient some days previously, suffering acute attack of asthma, supervened by pleurisy, his condition of health being regarded as very serious from the outset. Dan, as he wns familiarly known, was a man of giant stature, and in his young days, when footracing was booming in this as well ns other districts and the City, he was regarded as one of the outstanding Athletes; he was also a footballer and his fine physique, needless to say, was a subject in itself, especially when his team played away from home, attracted quite a lot of attention. Notwithstanding his ruggedness in the line of sport he was a very quiet man of unassuming disposition, but one of intelligence who was over keen in doing the right thing in the right way. For a goodly number of years, when the machinery, nn 1 noise of the stampers, winning gold at Yalwal, mnde that centre a hive of industry, Mr. McLoan conducted horse teams, convoying heavy freightage between that goldfield and Nowra. He had reached in age within a year,or little more, of the allotted span. Mrs. Rehardt, sen., of Gouuburn and formerly of Nowra. was sister to the deccased. He married Miiss Lumsden, a member of the well known family of that name, of Beaumont, and is survived by widow and adult family. The mortal remains were conveyed to Kangaroo Valley for interment, and the funeral cortege left the church yesterday afternoon for the Presbyterian portion of the public cemetery, where many old friends were in attendance to pay their last tribute of respect. The Nowra Leader, NSW, Friday, 4 May 1934

With his widow, a grown-up family of four sons, and two daughters survive him, together with his brother and two sisters, Mrs. Rehardt, of Goulburn, and Mrs. Giles, of Nowra. Other Events:

    • Obituary: 8 May 1915, The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser, NSW; Death of Mrs. Lumsden, Sen. The death occurred early on Sunday morning of Mrs. Lumsden, relict of the late Mr. J. Lumsden, at her home, Beaumont, at the ripe age of 88 years. The deceased lady was one of the band of grand old pioneers, who having nobly done their duty in their day and generation, are gradually passing away. With her late husband, who pre-deceased her some 13 years, She helped to carve out a home on the Valley side of the mountain, when it was nothing like so accessible as it is to-day, and there she resided till her death, receiving in her declining years the devoted attention of the members of her family, particularly of Mr. James Lumsden and his wife. Two of her sons-Councillors Robert and James Lumsden-are prominent men in the public life of this district, one son holding the position of President of the Cambewarra Shire, and the other held the office two years ago; and both have been elevated to the Commission of the Peace, as well as occupying other representative positions. The deceased lady not only proved herself a worthy helpmeet to her husband in their struggling days, and a devoted mother to her children, but she was ever ready and willing to give of her time and attention to neighbors in need of help. A fine type of woman, she was widely known and deservedly held in the highest esteem. The funeral on Monday was largely attended, the service at the grave being conducted by the Rev.R. B. Garner, of Berry. The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser, NSW, Saturday, 8 May 1915
