Ted (Edward) was a widower with a son of seven years when he married Ettie (Henrietta). His first wife was Ruby Ladlow. Ruby had two children with ted, Howard and Irene, Ruby passed away very young, as did her daughter who died only a few years after ruby.
Ted and Ettie went to Mulgildie in 1925, and selected a block of land where they grew cotton and corn, before starting a dairy. In the early 1940s, they bought another farm at Kapaldo in the same district. They sold the Mulgildie farm soon after, and settled on the new one.
Ted served on the Monto Shire Council for 10 years. He was a foundation member of the Q.D.O. and the school transport committee, and he also worked on the school committee.
Ettie helped form a Q.C.W.A. Branch in Mulgildie. She was a member of the Monto Ambulance Centre Committee, and a member of the Church of England Guild.
Timber from their property was donated to help build a combined church at Kapaldo. Ettie was President of the new combined Guild for 16 years.
In later years they changed from dairying to beef cattle, and in 1972, Ted aged 81 years retired to Hervey Bay with his wife.
On Saturday, 30th of June 1973, Ted and Ettie went to Biggenden, where together with family and friends, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Also present was their Best Man, Thomas Keyworth, and the Brides Maid, Winnie Giles, Ettie's sister. The Mont Shire President also attended, and in his speech he praised the work done by Ted and Ettie for the Monto Shire.
They lived in Stephenson Street, Scarness until Ettie's death in 1975. Ted lost most of his sight soon after and spent most of his time with his sons Noel and Harold.
While he was able to, he spent time with each of his children.
During the last months of his life, Ted was in a home outside of Rockhampton.
He passed away there on the 16th of July 1983, aged 91 years and 9 months. He was laid to rest in the Mulgildie Cemetery beside his wife, son and brother.
