A 1932 Rolls-Royce owned by James Cecil Lilley. 20/25 Hooper Limousine, registration YY 3691, chassis no. GMU54.

James C Lilley was the first owner of this car, placing his order in September 1932 and using Woodcot, Waterhouse Lane, Burgh Heath as the invoicing/delivery address. In 1939, his son Peter Lilley of 75 Gloucester Place, London requested that Jack Barclay remove the body on GMU54 and replace it with one from Chassis No GDP60 at a cost of £275. The chassis cards imply that GMU54 remained with the Lilley family until it was sold in 1950 to Messrs A Pargetter & Son in Coventry.

GMU54 was on sale in 2015 for £37,500: 'A delightful, handsome D-back limousine, traditionally finished in black, with a particularly nice re-upholstered interior in black leather to the front and beige cloth to the rear, with new headlining, carpets, etc, and re-finished woodwork, all of which is recent and part of a restoration over the last ten years or so by the previous owner, which also included a full engine overhaul. Importantly, a new cylinder head has also been fitted, and other work has included re-wiring in correct cotton-covered cable. The car has twin side-mounted spare wheels, a full set of Ace wheel discs, and a nicely restored large rear-mounted trunk, which incorporates fitted drawers. Sound, driving well, characterful and appealing!'

Between 1930 & 1964 Lilley & Skinner owned eight Rolls-Royces and eight Bentleys. Two registrations obviously 'cherished' were TL100 and JL11 which James Lilley had on four of his cars in the 1950 & 1960s. In addition, the company of Lilley & Skinner was the first owner of chassis number WDC35, and Thomas Lilley was the first owner of chassis numbers BLW43 and B81AP.
