GOLDEN WEDDING
KUNST-PETERSEN
On Saturday, January 5, Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Kunst of Miva, celebrated the 50th. anniversary of their wedding, which took place at Esgrus-Berisk-Schleswig, Germany. In the early hours of the morning relatives of the couple began to arrive, and when the gathering sat down to the wedding breakfast at 1 p.m., there were 40 guests present. The tables were tastefully arranged, the cheif centre of attraction being a handsome three-tier wedding cake, mounted with gold trimmings. The cake was the handiwork of Mrs. Arthur Kunst. During the breakfast the following toast list was honoured;-"The King," proposed by the chairman, (Mr. W. H. Sauer); "Bride and Bridegroom," proposed by Mr. W. H. Sauer, supported by Mr. Andy Hoffman, and responded to by Mr. J. F. Kunst: " The Family," proposed by Mr. W. Sauer, and responded to by Mr. August Kunst; "The Brothers," proposed by M. E. Kunst ans responded to by Mr. C. H. Kunst; "The Helpers," proposed by Mr. Hans Kunst, and replied to on behalf of ladies by Mr. O. J. Kunst; "The Chairman,' proposed by Mr.J. F. Kunst and responded to by Mr. Sauer. Special mention was made during the evening to the untiring work of Miss Crouch as waitress.
After the breakfast the guests went into the garden, where Mr.-Rasmussen of Deborah, took several photographs of the family and descendants, which include nine sons, one daughter, 26 grand-children, and two great-grand-children. during the afternoon the younger generation played games and generally enjoyed themselves. At night the gathering was augmented by a small suprise party. Those late arrivals, and a number of the guests adjourned to the barn, where old-time dancing was indulged in, whilst card games were by the older folk till midnight, when once again all were invited to the tables for supper.
After supper, dancing was continued, and dawn had broken when the party had joined in the singing of "Auld Lang Sine" before dispersing. During the day and night, Mr. and Mrs. Kunst were the recipients of congratulatory messages, and everyone expressed a hope that they would all be able to meet at "Spring Hill" in 10 years time to once more honour this popular and obliging couple.
Mr. and Mrs. Kunst are spending their "Golden Honeymoon" at Pialba. It is 43 years on January 12 since Mr. and Mrs. Kunst arrived in Queensland, with a family of four sons. Prior to his marriage Mr. Kunst served three years in the German Army, and after his marriage worked as a bricklayer and carpenter for the princely sum of 15/ a week and keep.Aome three years before this three of Mr. Kunst's brothers (all well-known and highly respected residents) came to Queensland, and they induced their brother Fritz to follow them. This step he has had no cause to regret. About 30 years ago he selected his present property, and after the usual trials of the pioneer, and with the aid of his loyal wife and family, he built up his present home, an achievement of which any man may be proud. Mr. Kunst considers that one of the best tasks he performed was his success in inducing the council to build what is known as Johnson's bridge-a benifet known only to well to local settlers today. About three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kunst decided to take their well-earned rest and handed over the management of the farm to their two sons, O. J. and Asmus Kunst.

A GOLDEN WEDDING.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Kunst, of Miva, recently celebrated their golden wedding at their residence, in the presence of their descendants, which comprise nine sons, one daughter, 26 grand-children, and two great grand-children. After the customary wedding breakfast, a toast list was honoured, with Mr. W. H. Sauer as chairman.
At night the guests, augmented by other friends, enjoyed dancing. Mr. and Mrs. Kunst, who are now spending a holiday at Pialba, were married at Esgrus Berisk, Schleswig, Germany, and came to Queensland 43 years ago, three brothers of Mr. Kunst having previously settled in the State. Thirty years ago Mr. Kunst selected his present farm at Miva, and, with the aid of his wife, such success attended his effort that three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kunst were able to hand over the business to their sons (Messrs.O.J. and Asmus Kunst), and enjoy that rest which should be the evening of the lives of all pioneers.
It is interesting to note that after he was married in Germany, Mr. Kunst served in the army there, and worked as & carpenter and bricklayer for 15/ per week.

OBITUARY
MR. J. F. KUNST
The death of Mr. Jes Frederich Kunst at his residence, Miva, on May 1 removed one of the old residents and a familiar figure of the district. The late Mr. Kunst was born at Schlezwig Holstein, Germany, on March 15, 1852, and so had attained the age of years. In 1885, on the advice of his brothers already domiciled in Queenland, Mr. Kunst with his young wife and four children decided to migrate to Queensland and arrived at Brisbane on January 12, 1886, in the ship, Duke of Westminster. He came to one of his brothers at Greenwood, staying there for two years. Being of an adapt able nature he soon learned the ways of his adopted country.
He then went to his brother Henry's place on the lower Munna, and after a period of nine years decided to launch out on his own on a farm at Deborah.
Whilst here Mr. Kunst struck one of those bad periods that so to make up the average life. He lost practically all his savings by fire, and nearly all his stock by disease, and his two valuable farm horses were shot-a blow which made even his stout heart quail.
Undauntcd, Mr. Kunst then selected the piece of land on which he was destined to end his days. Arriving here on May 5, 1900, he again set to work to build a home for his wife and family under conditions which at that time were anything but bright. Here success crowned his work and the homestead and surroundings stand testimony today to the efforts of himself, wife and family.
The late Mr. Kunst was of a retiring disposition and ever ready to lend a helping hand for the advancement of the district. He is survived by a sorrowing wife, eight sons and one daughter, one son having predeceased him 39 years ago. The funeral which left the residence of Mr. W. H. Sauer for the Miva (Munna Creek) Cemetery, was attended, the cortege comprising 37 cars and one sulky, whilst a number of people, unable to cross Miva Crossing by car, were waiting at the graveside. There was a big array of floral tributes. The Rev. Jones, Tiaro, officiated at the graveside and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. Jack Cornes, Gympie
