    OBITUARY

    MR. J. W. BARGENQUAST
The recent sudden and unexpected passing of the late Mr. John William Bargenquast at his home in Biggenden, came as a severe shock to his family and wide circle of friends. Born in Germany in 1877, the late Mr. Bargenquast came to Queensland at the age of seven years, in 1884. The family settled at Maroochy, where the father was employed in railway construction work. In 1889 they selected land on Sandy Creek in the Teebar district, where they commenced farming and dairying, and his father also engaged in the timber industry. In his early twenties, the late Mr. Bargenquast selected land on Eel Creek, where, with the other members of the family, he carried on farming and dairying. He specialised in the growing of maize, on which crop he became a noted authority.

In 1905 he married Miss Mary Thomsen, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Thomsen of Brooweena. There they lived for 43 years, adding to their holding as opportunity offered. In 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Bargenquast decided to retire, and disposed of their property to Mr. Dudley Hay. They bought a home In Biggenden, where they lived up to the time of Mr. Bargenquast's death.

There are four children of the marriage. Archie, (Railway bridge carpenter, Maryborough), Desmond (Railway Department, Gilla), Ruby, (Mrs. George Todd, Biggenden), and Elsie (Mrs. B. Smith, Thulimbu). There are 14 grand children. He also is survived by one brother, Mr. H. Bargenquast, Boompa, and two sisters, Mrs. C. H. Maitland (Maryborough), and Mrs. Cox (Childers). Two sisters, Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. Douglas, pre-deceased him. The late Mr. Bargenquast, who was one of the most popular and most, highly respected residents of the Boompa district, was of a most dignified, kindly and hospitable disposition and his home was "Open house" at all times for old and young. He was a loyal supporter of both Church of England and the Methodist Church. He was keenly interested in sport, and was largely instrumental in forming the Teebar Rifle Club, over 40 years ago. He was captain of the club for several years. He was president of the Flaunden Cricket Club, and of the Woocoo District Cricket Association for many years, and later patron. Incidentally, his wife was the ofiicial scorer of the club. He was also a prominent member of the Teebar Tennis Club for many years. Of an intensely patriotic nature, he was a most onerous supporter of all patriotic functions during both world wars.

His remains were laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery, Brooweena. The service being conducted by Rev. Mr. Tomlinson of St. John's, Biggenden.

The cortege was one of the largest seen in the district, being attended by several hundreds of relatives and friends, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles to pay their last respects.

    A BUSH WEDDING. BARGENQUAST-THOMSEN.

A very pretty wedding took place at the residence of Mr. P. C. W. Bargenquast, West Teebar, on Tuesday morning, the 18th ultimo. The contracting parties being Mr. John Bargenquast, eldest son of Mr. P. C. W. Bargenquast, and Miss Mary Thomsen, eldest daughter of Mr. Sophus Thomsen, of East Teebar. The Rev. R.W. The room was nicely decorated by the friends of the young couple, a wedding bell being suspended over the bridal party. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very nice in a gown of rich cream Japenese silk. The blouse was made with a transparent yoke of rich silk Maltese insertion, and small painted spaulettes, edged with silk ruche sleeves, puffed with deep cuffs and trimmed with bands of rich Maltese insertion. The skirt, falling full with a deep fringe at hem, and slightly trained, was also trimmed, was also trimmed with a rich Maltese insertion.

The bridesmaid were Miss Sophie Thomsen, sister of the bride and Miss Vera Bargenquast, sister of the bridegroom. The best man was Mr. Hermann Bargenquast, brother of the bridegroom, and groomsman, Mr. Albert Thomsen, brother of the bride. After the ceremony the bridal party, led the war amid a shower of rice and rose leaves, to the large booth erected near the house, where the wedding breakfast was partaken of.

The large table was laden with all manner of good things, and a large number sat down, making quite a spectacle. The beautiful three-tier wedding cake in the centre, setting off the whole scene.

After the breakfast the quests were asked to charge their glasses, and a very neat little speech, the father of the bridegroom proposed the health of the newly wedded couple. Mr. Bargenquast, on behalf of his wife and self, thanked all those who were present for all their many good wishes. Over sixty guests were present, and after the breakfast amused themselves in different ways until evening, when dancing was indulges in
until the small hours of the morning.

The presents were valuable and numerous, among the number being a handsome cheque from the bridegroom's parents. The bridegroom's gifts to the bridemaids were to Miss Vera Bargenquast a ring; to miss Sophie Thomsen a brooch.

Mr. and Mrs. Bargenquast left by train for Maryborough, where the honeymoon was spent. The travelling dress was a violet cloth trimmed white speckled white silk braid and violet buttons.
