  	THE LATE MRS. MARSDEN. Portland Pioneer Passes. (From our own Correspondent.) The passing of the late Mrs. Marsden of Ridge Street, Portland, on Thursday night removes from our midst, one of the most remarkable women of the western district. Born at Pope's Creek, near St. Mary's,87 years ago, she came to reside at Meadow Flat, while quite a young girl, and was there until her marriage to the late Charles Marsden, who was a son of the Rev. Samuel Marsden, the famous preacher, and missionary. The wedding took place in April, I867 at, Mt. Lambie, and one of the things Mrs. Marsden would relate with pride was how she and her young husband rode on horseback all the way over the Blue Mountains down to St.Mary's, near Penrith. Porton of the early married life of Mrs. Marsden was spent at Hill End, and Lucknow. This was in the days of the gold rush, and her recollections of these times and the exploits of the bushrangers were very vivid. A woman of very fine physique, she she had an iron constitution and in addition to the care of her own family and the many duties incidental to the work of a farm she was in great demand as a nurse. Her skill in this direction was widely known. Though busy in many ways, she still found time to render good service to her church. For many years at the old Methodist Church at Meadow Flat.and in later years, at the the C. of E., Portland, to which town she came to reside 20 years ago, just about the time her husband predeceased her. Two sons (Charles, of Portland, and George, of Minimurra, and two daughters (Mrs. Baker, of Bulli, and Mrs. Tarbet, of Windham), are left, to mourn her loss, in addition to 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
