- Killed in a plane crash while on active service. Tennyson had been filming in Scapa Flow in the Orkneys, Scotland, perhaps for a project involving HMS Dunluce Castle, which was moored in Scapa Flow as a Depot Ship providing temporary accomodation for crews. He then took a plane from Scapa Flow on the first leg of a journey back to London. Though it is known that this plane crashed, apparently on or soon after take-off, the exact circumstances of Tennyson's death remain unclear; some sources list it as having taken place aboard HMS Dunluce Castle.
