Harold Courtenay Tennyson was appointed as a Midshipman to HMS Queen Mary on 15 September 1913, and promoted Acting Sub-Lieutenant on 15 September 1915. He served on HMS Queen Mary until 9 November 1915 when he became part of the ship's company of H.M. Torpedo-Boat Destroyer Viking, which hit a mine while on patrol in the Channel and Tennyson was killed. |

| HMS Viking HMS Viking was one of 12 Tribal class torpedo boat destroyers of the Royal Navy, launched on 14 September 1909. During the First World War she served in the North Sea and the English Channel with the 6th Destroyer Flotilla. On 29 January 1916 she struck a mine which killed ten crewmen and badly damaged her stern. She was the only six-funnelled ship in the Royal Navy and was scrapped in 1919. |
