Moved to Essex and worked for County of London Electricity Supply Company before nationalisation.

    NB Croad's School was founded by Major Charles Croad in 1890 and closed in 1910. The school was in Portland Street near where the lamp shop now stands. There were 60 boys at its peak of which 25 were boarders. Major Croad was a master with two assistants. Pupils were mainly sons of shopkeepers, farmers and other businessmen of the town.
