A third surname, Radwell, is mentioned by City of London Cemetery and Crematorium whose records state 'Daphne Edwina Sones o/w Radwell'. (o/w stands for 'otherwise'). This might be a mistaken reference to her grandmother Minnie Rodwell; reason unknown. [1] |

Family legend has it that Daphne was a very pretty girl and was a model for the artwork on a classic confectionery tin of the time (presumably 1920s).
Peter Harries recounts that Daphne said she had shared school classes with Vera Lynn, and that Dame Vera later lived in one of Harold Simpson's properties. I wrote to Dame Vera to investigate but she had no memory of it.
Daphne was reclusive and had no children. From c.1968 she lived at 36 Hutton Village, Shenfield, a house partly funded from the family's earlier wealth. [3] |
