The death occurred on Wednesday, in his seventieth year, of Mr. Jonah Matthews. Mr. Matthews came to Queensland, accompanied by his parents, in 1877, from Wales. He first went to Rochford, and later to Mlll chester, where he followed the pastoral industry until drought obliged him to relinquish this venture. Then, after removing to Charters Towers, he was employed at the Klondyke cyanide works, the Phoebe mine, thence to Pamell's cyanide works, the Excelsior works, and finally back to Parnell's where he stayed until 1919, when he purchased the Bluff orchard, which he worked successfully since. Mr. Matthews leaves a widow and a family of twelve children (nine sons end three daughters), 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild).
