    • .: 'Biographical Details George Thornton Simpson (1875-1958), known as Thornton, was the step-son of Mary Simpson (née Robinson), who was the niece of Eugénie Sladden. George was born on 19th December 1875 at Ashford, Middlesex, the youngest of six children of Edward Henry Simpson and his wife, Kate. Thornton trained as a solicitor and moved to Nottingham where he had a practice. It was whilst living in Nottingham that he met his future wife, Maud Turney. They married on 12th June 1913 at All Hallows, Gedling. They had two children: Christine Thornton (1914-1989) and Miles Turney Thornton (1916-2001). Thornton is referred to in a letter of 8th June 1914 written by Mary Anna (Polly) Robinson on the occasion of his wife having given birth to their first child. Reference is also made to him and his wife and daughter on the occasion of their visit to Devon in August 1915. Thornton died on 21st July 1958 at The Lodge, Papplewick, Nottinghamshire, aged 82.'     Dies at Salterton.
    We regret to record the death of Mr. Edward Henry Simpson, which occurred at the age of 84 at 'Highfield,' Budleigh, Salterton, on Saturday. Deceased, who was a brother-in-law of Mr. C. T. K. Roberts, of 'Fairfield.' Exeter, was formerly in business in St. Martin;s Lane, London, retiring about 25 years ago. He was succeeded by his, the business being that of art tile workers. Deceased is survived by five sons.
